The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the
incumbent, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, as the winner of the Ondo State
governorship election.
Mimiko, candidate of the Labour Party, won the election with 260,199
votes while Barrister Olusola Oke of the Peoples Democratic Party was
second with 155,961 votes and Action Congress of Nigeria’s Barrister
Rotimi Akeredolu third with 143,512 votes.
INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Biyi Daramola of
the Federal University of Technology, declared Mimiko the winner on the
basis of the results.
With his emergence as the winner of the October 20, 2012 governorship
election, Mimiko becomes the first person to win a re-election in the
state.
