Gunmen kill Mopol commander in Kano

Gunmen last night shot dead a commander of Mobile Police Squadron 9 located in Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.

SP Dahiru Musa Majia was trailed to his private residence at Layin Transformer in Sabuwar Gandu by assailants driving a car and killed shortly after 7pm.

Yesterday’s killing was the first on a serving senior police officer in the state, but no group has yet claimed responsibility for it.

Witnesses said the commander was trailed to his house by the assailants shortly after Magrib prayers.

The officer, who lost his wife about two months ago, was said to have married another wife only a week ago.

A female resident of the area who would not want her name mentioned, said the attackers continued to shoot in the area after killing the cop.

She told Daily Trust that gunshots rent the area for over 30 minutes after the attack.

“There were policemen guarding the house, but they were withdrawn later,” she said.

Residents said the victim died on the spot, as he was fatally injured.

The deceased was a DPO of Gwagwarwa Police Division in Kano metropolis, before he was posted to Kaduna State.

He was however transferred back to Kano to head the Mopol 9 Squadron in Hotoro.

The state police command confirmed the killing.
